Cookie Policy for the websites operated by the Institute of National Remembrance

This Cookie Policy defines the purposes of the data storage and access on the User’s end device, to provide online services to the user by the Institute of National Remembrance – Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation (IPN) with its registered office in Warsaw, ul. Wołoska 7, 02-675 Warsaw.

§ 1 Definitions

1. Administrator – Institute of National Remembrance – Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation (IPN) with its registered office in Warsaw, ul. Wołoska 7, 02-675 Warsaw, NIP: 525-21-80-487, Regon: 016365090, that provides online services, stores and accesses the data on User's end devices.

2. Cookies – computer data, in particular small text files, recorded and stored on devices through which the User uses the Service’s websites.

3. Administrator Cookies – Cookies published by the Administrator, related to online services provided by the Administrator through the Service’s website.

4. External Cookies – cookies saved on the website by the Administrator’s partners.

5. Service – website or web application which is used by the Administrator to manage the www.przystanek-historia.pl Internet service.

6. Device – electronic device used by the User to access the website.

7. User – entity to whom electronic services can be provided or with whom a contract for providing electronic services may be concluded, in accordance with the Rules and the law.

§ 2 User data

The website’s user data shall in no way be released to third parties. Any data can be forwarded upon request of competent state authorities in relation with their ongoing investigations.

In some cases, it is possible to transfer personal data. The data is made available each time on a voluntary basis and used as intended and in compliance with the applicable rules.

Data collected during correspondence between Users and the Institute of National Remembrance, with the use of our contact form, shall be applied only for the purpose of answering your request/ query / complaint / participation in competitions.

§ 3 Types of Cookies

1. Cookies used by the Administrator are safe for User Devices. It is not possible for viruses and unwanted or malware software to enter User Devices this way. These files allow the Administrator to identify software used by the User and to adapt the Service to each User individually. Cookies typically contain the name of a domain they come from, the time of storage on the Device and the assigned value.

2. The Administrator uses two types of Cookies:

a) Session Cookies: contain information that is stored in the User’s Device and then subsequently deleted after the session is completed or the web browser is closed. They do not allow for retrieving any personal data nor any confidential data from the User’s Device.

b) Persistent cookies: are stored on the User Device and remain there until they are deleted by the User. The end of a browser session or shutting down the Device does not delete data from the User Device. The mechanism of Persistent Cookies does not allow for collecting any personal data or any confidential data from the User Device.

3. The User is able to limit or to block the access of cookies to the Device. When the User decides to use this option, the use of the Service will still be possible with the exception of functions which require Cookies by their nature.

§ 3 Data collection

In line with the adopted practice of the majority of WWW services, we store HTTP requests posted to our server. Data collection is viewed and identified with use of URL addresses.  The exact list of data stored in the server logs is as follows:

The data are not associated with individual persons who view the websites of IPN. In order to ensure the highest quality of our services, we analyse the log files from time to time in order to determine which websites are viewed most often, which web browsers are used, whether the website structure contains errors, etc.

§ 4 Purposes for which cookies are used:

1. The Administrator uses their own Cookies in order to ensure the service configuration, in particular:

a) to adapt the contents of the websites to the User’s preferences and optimise the websites.

b) to recognise the User’s Device and its location and to display the website accordingly, meeting individual needs of the User.

c) to store the User’s settings and personalise the User’s interface, e.g. in terms of the language selected or the User’s area.

d) to store the history of visited sites in the Service in order to recommend future contents.

e) to store data on the font size, appearance of the website, etc.

2. The Administrator uses their own Cookies in order to authenticate the service user and assure the User’s session in the Service, in particular:

a) to maintain the Service User’s session (after logging in) so that the User does not have to re-enter his login and password on every subpage of the Service;

b) to properly configure selected functions of the Service, in particular allowing for the authentication of the browser’s session;

c) to optimise and increase the capacity of the services rendered by the Administrator.

3. The Administrator uses their own Cookies in order to achieve full website functionality:

a) to adapt the Service contents to the User’s preferences and optimise the use of Service websites. In particular, these files allow to recognise the User’s device and display the website accordingly adapted to the User’s individual needs;

b) to correctly operate an affiliate program, allowing in particular for the verification of redirection sources of the Users to the Service pages.

4. The Administrator uses their own Cookies in order to store the User’s location, and in particular to correctly configure selected functions of the Service, allowing in particular for the adaptation of the data provided to the User, taking into account the User’s location.

5. The Administrator uses their own Cookies to analyse, study and audit the Service, in particular to create anonymous statistics which help to understand how the Service Users use the websites, which allows to improve their structure and contents.

6. The Administrator uses external Cookies to sign in to the Service with the use of Facebook or Twitter.

7. The Administrator uses external Cookies to raise the awareness of the Service with the use of Facebook or Twitter.

§ 5 Possibilities to determine conditions of storage or access for Cookies:

1. The User may on their own and at any time change the settings to define the conditions of the storage of Cookies and access to the User’s Device. The User may change the settings either in the Internet browser or in the service configuration. These settings may be changed in particular to block automatic support of Cookies in the Internet browser or to inform every time if Cookies are stored on the User’s Device. Detailed information about possibilities and ways of Cookies handling are available in the software settings (Internet browser).

2. The User may delete Cookies at any time, using features available in the Internet browser.

3. Restricting the use of Cookies may affect some functionalities available on the Service websites.
